Scharae got her night at Nana and Papa's alone tonight, which means Keira got her night with Mom and Dad. She got to choose where we went for dinner. John was really looking forward to going to Applebees-made sure to get home in time for 1/2 price appetizers and everything. BUT this girlie switched it up on him:

She wanted to go to "the icky Red store by Target that Dad doesn't like." To clarify, it's not the food Jack doesn't like, it's the service. In Bellingham "bottomless fries" was a misnomer...with not even one refill during the whole meal. And the way he is with restaurants is if one is bad, all of them are bad. He actually LIKES the food, and LIKES that the fries are refillable...just hates that they rarely actually live up to it!
But he had to suck it up and go since, afterall, it was Keira's night to pick. And guess what....service was FINE! His drink was rarely empty, he had 3 rounds of fries (we had to request 2 of them, but the point is that they CAME before the bill) and Keira was super excited to have gotten to go there.
And now....

MARBLES. One of the girls' "Daddy toys" is marbles. I don't play with them. I don't like the idea of having to keep track of all the little pieces and the marbles and the building is just not my forte. John loves them. So we have a box of marble sets up in their closet that they get to play with under dad's supervision. It's great because it gives them a bonding activity that stays special because it's something that Mom doesn't do-only Dad. Sort of like the swings at the park! hehe. So Keira was promised that if we were home before 8 she'd get to play with the marbles as long as she got in jammies and made sure the house was picked up before playing. Marbles make a great motivator!
Tomorrow K has school while Scharae hangs out with Nana in the morning. And then later I think the weekly tradition of "fruit and veggie" shopping begins. Mom was debating going with a CSA again this year or not. She figured out that it is $28/wk for the fruits and veggies that would come with it and you get what you get-very minimal yes/no power on it. I pointed out to her that in the wonderful area of the state/country that we live, $28 can go quite a long ways in the summer, even if you want to stick with local and/or organic. There are plenty of fruit/veggie stands and more and more pop up as the season gets under swing. And just in case, there's always our standby favorite-E Z Orchards-which has the added benefit of fresh fruit shortcakes!!! So tomorrow will begin the weekly endeavor to be sure our homes are stalked full of fresh fruit and veggies!

Fun night for K and I loved that she picked Red Robin...especially since you and I had just been talking about how John doesn't like it. Glad this round was better!
