This is the chapter book I finally seemed to get through to Keira with. She has had no problem with me reading chapter books to her or even with her (like switching off pages/chapters) but I was really feeling like she was ready to be picking chapter books to read for her nightly reading time, and even at school for her daily reading at school.
She picked this one and once I put post-it notes at the start of each of the 5 chapters (92 pages!) she was ready to go. She has just about finished it off and now claims to LOVE chapter books because the stories are better because the book is long enough to make more parts to the story. Smart Kid!
I went to the library yesterday and picked out a few more books from there for her to read during the next 2 weeks off from school. Methinks that it's time to transition from "mom needs a break from you kids, turn on the TV" to "mom needs a break from you guys, sit and read silently". Scharae isn't quite there, but she can story board instead (post coming up with those details).
Mercy Watson-has anyone heard of these books? cute little pig in them. They're chapter books but they're fully illustrated and are probably able to be read in one good length sitting. Keira told me she'll give it a try but it might be "too short of a story now that I like chapter book stories" so just in case I got a few from some fairy series. Lucy the Diamond Fairy, or something like that.
