Ouch! As of about 10:30 this morning this is what Keira's one finger looks like! She thought she was turning into a Mexican (no offense to anyone reading this!) because she realized yesterday that the across-the-street neighbor girls are "brown" and she isn't. She told me yesterday that she can turn brown in the sun and "other ways. But we'll talk about them later". So this morning she came in and told me that her hands were "turning colors. Maybe probably they'll be brown when they're done!" Anyhow, she was talking about this finger. She thought when it was done it'd get to turn brown. We can only hope that doesn't happen! We were just getting ourselves together to walk over to the fairgrounds for Ag Fest and those plans had to get changed real fast.
Because she has a history of MRSA (staph) infections they got her right in even though there weren't actually any appointments available at the weekend clinic. There's no obvious bite marks for it to be a bug bite, there's no white "head" so the doctor didn't want to cut into it to relieve pressure because he didn't think he'd get anything out and it would be traumatic. So as of now we're treating it like a staph infection even though we have no clue what it is. Poor kid! There is a healed up cut just above the swelling but that happened 2 weeks ago-I doubt things would have taken this long to show up if something got into it at that point in time, right? Oh, and it's totally weird how the first segment of her finger is fine, the middle is a sausage, and the bottom one is also swollen-the top one being totally fine is just strange I think.
So anyhow, we're just hoping that it'll get better some by Monday. If it's looking the same-if the antibiotics done show any improvement-or if the swelling goes down into her hand she'll be back in to the doctor ASAP!
I hope it is nothing to serious! Keep us posted.
